The Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) was developed in Japan and has become a standard for Japanese language competency certification worldwide since 1984. Now JLPT Indonesia, which is managed under the auspices of the Japan Foundation Jakarta, wants to improve the quality of its exam registration website. To help with this, the Japan Foundation Jakarta entrusted Timedoor Indonesia to redesign the JLPT Indonesia registration website.
The Problem
How might we modernize an outdated website and improve server capacity to handle a high volume of users?
The Workflow
- Start by gathering user requirements to understand their needs.
- Discuss and refine the ideal registration flow.
- Design with a clean Japanese theme to match the brand and style and make it more modern.
- Increase server capacity to handle a larger volume of users.
- Test for usability.
- Iterate and improve based on feedback received.

Wireframe
After creating the sitemap, we next created a wireframe to plan the structure and layout of the user interface before starting the more detailed design process.
Style Guide
After creating the wireframe, the next step is to create a style guide for consistent and intuitive design development
UI & UX Design Crafting
After compiling a style guide, the next step is to design a responsive user interface (UI) for the website display and mobile version.
User Flows
After completing the design process, we continue the discussion with the client to determine the most suitable design. We received some feedback based on the needs of users and clients. Based on the feedback, we decided to change the test registration flow. Initially, users could register for multiple exams at once, but now users can only register for one exam.
Testing
We want to validate the exam registration process starting from registering, logging in, updating profiles, selecting a payment method, paying to printing test cards on our JLPT design with real users. From this user test, we will collect findings from users and validate our designs.
The method used in testing this time is unmoderated testing of five people with the help of a maze. The tester will create several test cases and process the test results data that has been obtained.
The Result
Improved registration flow that saves time and reduces confusion for users & committee
A modern design that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also easy to use
Ability to handle a larger number of users at the same time, ensuring that more people can register for exams without encountering slow loading times or website crashes.
